Lead Baker – OPEN

Job Title: Lead Baker (NOC 63202)
Location: Kam Lake, Yellowknife, NT
Duration: Full Time, Permanent
Time: 40-45 hours per week
Start Date: Spring 2026

Bush Order is seeking an individual to fill the role of lead baker.

We are a family run wholesale and retail bakery serving the community of Yellowknife, NT, baking slow-fermented bread, baked goods, pastries, and value-added products.

Our mission is to provide our community with breads and baked products that bring people together and nourish them. We believe that every community needs a thriving small business scene providing real, from scratch products, and thats what we aim to provide.

This role is responsible for mixing a variety of bread and pastry doughs (yeast and sourdough), this includes shaping and proofing dough, managing fermentation and laminating pastry dough. The role also includes baking off a majority of breads, maintaining inventory/stock management, and the upkeep of bakery maintenance and cleanliness. On a daily basis this role works with and reports directly to the business owner(s).

This role is also responsible for overseeing quality control. Maintaining high and consistent product standards is the direct responsibility of the lead baker. 

An interest in baking science and curiosity are helpful assets in being successful in a lead baker position. 

Bush Order Provisions Ltd. is a designated skilled trades trainer for the baking trade. This is an opportunity for an individual keen on a career as a baker, to gain a better understanding of the trade, or those seeking apprenticeship hours and wishing to work with a journeyperson baker (Red Seal Certified).

Roles & Responsibilities

Bakery/Food Production Support

Primary Responsibilities

  • Mix daily doughs (Understand autolysing, bassinage and dough temperature importance);
  • Divide, weigh and shape doughs;
  • Manage proofing;
  • Mix non-yeasted products. Divide, ball, cut non-yeasted doughs;
  • Bake the previous day’s cold-proofed or same-day dough;
    • Working with deck oven and convection oven;
  • Laminate pastry dough. Includes shaping pastries;
  • Assist with inventory management of ingredients most frequently used by the lead baker;
  • Package and label daily products as needed;
    • Including use of bread slicer, Apple laptop and label printer
  • Maintain sourdough starter.

Requirements & Qualifications

  • Preference will be given to those with professional baking or kitchen experience, but is not required to apply;
  • Must be legally able to work in Canada;
  • Must be able to comfortably stand for extended periods of time on hard ground and be able to routinely lift 20kg of weight with ease, occasionally up to 30kg;
  • Must be able to work early mornings and be punctual;  
  • Must be able to work alone for extended periods, be self-directed, and remain focused and on task;
  • Attention to detail and multitasking.

Salary

  • $23/hr to $30/hr based on experience. 

Store Attendant/Packager/Deli Clerk – CLOSED

Job Title: Product Bagger
Location: Kam Lake, Yellowknife
Duration: Part-Time/Day-Time – could grow to full-time
Start Date: March 4th, 2026

Background: Bush Order Provisions is looking to fill a part-time role that could grow into a full-time position. This role would be responsible for opening and operating our onsite Farm Store (specialty food store) during the week days, this includes packaging daily fresh baked products, stocking shelves, interacting with customers. During slow periods in the store, this role would also help with creating ready-to-eat sandwiches and processing our bulk cheese for resale.

Roles & Responsibilities

Product Packaging

  • Manually pack/bag finished bakery products, including breads, pastries, cookies, scones and other items into respective bags, boxes, or containers.
  • Print and label all products, ensuring all are accurately labeled for display and/or delivery.
  • Assist with vacuum sealing and labelling frozen products.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work area, adhering to all food safety and sanitation standards.
  • Working efficiently and safely in a fast-paced environment.
  • Rack products on delivery crates or stock Farm Store shelves.

Deli Clerk – Sandwich Artist/Cheesemonger

  • Assemble weekly sandwiches as per production schedule
    • Including prepping ingredients.
    • Assembling various types of sandwiches.
    • Wrapping and labelling finished products.
  • Bulk cheese processing for retail as per production schedule
    • Cutting required cheese while adhering to the Cheese Cutting Chart.
    • Operating manual wire-based cheese cutting machine.
    • Vacuum sealing and labelling all cut cheeses.
  • Follow kitchen cleaning processes

Store Attendant

  • Familiarize yourself with all Bush Order products (made or imported).
  • Ensure baked goods are stocked before opening and maintained during store hours.
  • Ensure all specialty products are restocked in a timely manner.
  • Use Square POS system.
  • Interact and assist customers with products in a friendly manner.
  • Notify management if a product is getting low on stock.
  • Perform ongoing cleaning tasks – sweeping, dusting, glass cleaning.
  • Pack online orders when required for delivery or pick up.

Bakery/Farm Store Attendant – Evening/Saturday Hours – ONGOING

Job Title: Bakery/Farm Store attendant
Location: Kam Lake, Yellowknife
Duration: Part-Time/Week day evenings and Saturday
Start Date: Ongoing

Background: Bush Order is seeking to open their Farm Store multiple times a week, along with on Saturday. In order to do so, we are looking for a high school student who is energetic, motivated individual interested in expanding their customer service skills and a willingness to learn about our local, Canadian and specialty products.

Roles & Responsibilities

Product Responsibility

  • Assist with packaging baked products
  • Printing Labels (use of Apple computer)
  • Tallying product for wholesale deliveries

Farm Store Responsibilities

  • Open Farm Store (Saturday)
  • Setup products for display
  • Operate coffee maker
  • Work a Point of Sale system (square)
  • Interact with customers in a kind and courteous manner
  • Be willing to learn about all our products
  • Serve lunch items for takeaway
  • Restock/replenish shelves
  • Follow closing procedure (sweep, mop, clean, etc.)
  • Additional bakery/store tasks as needed

Schedule

  • Saturday – 9:00 am – 3:30 pm

Market Garden/Bakery Summer Position – CLOSED

The Market Garden/Bakery Summer Position will help with all aspects of indoor and outdoor vegetable and fruit production, sales (onsite Farm Store and YK Farmers Market) and provide kitchen/bakery processing assistance. This person will take direction from the Bush Order Manager but will regularly work independently. The following are the main areas of work and in any given week will rotate based on demand. 

Growing Tasks: Help with a wide range of indoor and field tasks related to the growing and maintenance of our crops. Planting, seeding, weeding, pruning, trellising, field prep; setting up field materials or infrastructure; and cleaning and organisational tasks. Assist in maintaining our compost chicken laying program. 

Harvesting: Help harvest vegetables for kitchen use, wholesale orders, and resale. Tasks include harvesting, weighing, washing, packaging and labelling. 

Kitchen Assistance: Providing assistance with product assembly and processing, packaging, and labelling.

Other job criteria: 

  • Be self motivated, team player with a positive attitude;
  • Be self-directed and able to work independently;
  • Ability to start workday at 7:30 am if needed;
  • Ability to work outside in less than ideal conditions (rain, or heat);
  • Ability to be on your feet for long hours at a time;
  • Ability to communicate effectively with co-workers.
  • Ability to lift 20 to 30 lbs regularly is helpful.

Start Date: Flexible, no later than Jun 1, 2024

Hourly Rate: $18-$25/hr based on experience,

Bakery Dough Mixer – Apprenticeship Option – OPEN

Position: Part-Time, with opportunity for Full-Time
Schedule: Monday – Friday 6:00 AM to 12:00 PM

Starting Hours: 30 hours per week
Rate: $18.00-24.00/hr

Bush Order is seeking an individual to fill the position of Apprentice Baker in the role of Dough Mixer.

This role is responsible for the task of mixing a variety of naturally leavened (sour)doughs, pastry dough, and the mixing and shaping of cookie & biscuit batter. Secondary roles include shaping and proofing dough, inventory/stock management, and upkeep of bakery maintenance and cleanliness. This role works with and reports directly to the Bakery Manager, who will provide direction and support.  

This is also an opportunity for an individual willing to start a career as a baker, gain a better understanding of the trade, or those seeking apprenticeship hours as Bush Order Provisions Ltd. is a designated trainer for the baking trade. 

Roles & Responsibilities

Bakery Responsibilities

  • Mix daily doughs as per production schedule provided by bakery manager;
  • Follow existing recipes and procedures to Bush Order standards;
  • Manage and weigh out all of the mixing ingredients for following days’ production (bread doughs, sweets, pastry etc.);
  • Communicate to the bakery manager when ordering/purchasing is required;
  • Keep workspace clean and organized;
  • Bag and fill orders when needed;
  • Follow the direction of bakery manager;
  • Baking of some products when needed;

Requirements & Qualifications

Preference will be given to those with professional baking or kitchen experience, but is not required to apply. 

  • Must be able to comfortably stand for extended periods of time on hard ground and be able to routinely lift 20kg of weight with ease;
  • Must be able to work early mornings and be punctual;  
  • Must be able to work alone for extended periods and remain focused and on task;
  • Attention to detail and multitasking;
  • Ability to ask questions when in doubt, and to take direction and feedback;
  • Willing to learn and be patient with the mixing and baking process of a wide range of doughs and batters;
  • An understanding and/or interest in naturally leavened products and completion of FoodSafe training are a bonus. 

Compensation

  • Starting wage $18.00-24.00/hr depending on experience.
  • Wage review based on performance.
